Vicki Herndon is a popular contra caller throughout the Southeast and has called for our series many times over the past decade. She's enthusiastic, energetic and always has a nice selection of dances. We  always enjoy her visits. While I personally wish she would learn to call a few squares, our local dancers seem perfectly happy to have a whole evening of nothing but contras - a situation that seems to exist throughout the contra world these days.   You should invite Vicki to call for your group. Her southern charm is infectious

   I just want to reiterate what a wonderful time we had, made more special by your calling.  Vicki, you never missed a beat or had to repeat or backtrack yourself.  The dances were engaging, new to most of us and always fun, so thanks zillions for all of your efforts and preparation.  You obviously knew the dances you called and were totally prepared for the event.

I am the organizer of the Atlanta contra dance and ask Vicki to come down from Tennessee as often as she is willing to make the trip — most recently as headline caller for our New Year’s Eve extravaganza.   Vicki is a FABULOUS  caller:

Teaching:  New dancers feel very comfortable with her.  She gives clear instructions and gets her point across to with humor and grace.  I have never even once heard her yell at the dancers (and I wish I could say the same about all of the Callers I have booked).

Calling style:  Vicki has a lot of energy which radiates from the stage as soon as she picks up a mic.  This seems to infect the room and soon everyone is bouncing and smiling along with her.

Band interaction:  The bands seem to enjoy working with her — I’ve never received any negative feedback from a musician after the fact.

Dances:  In addition to many of the usual standbys, Vicki has some extremely interesting, quirky, and complex dances in her repertoire.  If you elect to book her (which you should) please let her know in advance about the experience level she is likely to face so that she can decide whether or not to include some of the more unusual dances in the lineup.
